Privacy Policy
Last updated June 9, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Practica (“Practica,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, and shares information when you use our websites, applications, and related services (the “Service”). If you access Practica through an institution, that institution’s policies may also apply.
1. Information we collect
Information you provide
- Account and profile data such as your name, email address, role, and the institution or organization you belong to.
- Project content including deliverables, files you upload, messages, milestones, and portfolio materials.
- Communications you send to us or to other members through the Service.
Information we collect automatically
- Usage and device data such as pages viewed, actions taken, browser type, and approximate location derived from your IP address.
- Cookies and similar technologies used to keep you signed in and to operate the Service.
Information from your institution
If you join a workspace operated by a university or organization, that workspace may provide us with information needed to set up your account and assign you to courses or projects.
2. How we use information
- To provide, maintain, and improve the Service.
- To connect students, educators, and organizations on projects and to verify work.
- To generate AI-assisted project scopes, matches, and portfolio material at your request.
- To communicate with you about your account, projects, and updates.
- To protect the security and integrity of the Service and to comply with the law.
3. AI processing
Certain features send content you provide, such as a syllabus or project description, to third-party AI providers to generate suggestions. We send only what is needed to produce the result and do not use this content to train our own models. AI providers process the data under their own terms and applicable data-processing agreements.
4. How we share information
We do not sell your personal information. We share information only as described here:
- Within your workspace. Project members, professors, sponsors, and administrators can see content and activity relevant to shared projects.
- Service providers. We use vendors for hosting and database services, authentication, email delivery, AI processing, and nearby-business lookup. They may process information on our behalf under contract.
- Legal and safety. We may disclose information to comply with law, enforce our terms, or protect the rights and safety of users and the public.
- Business transfers. If Practica is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, information may be transferred as part of that transaction.
5. Student and education records
When Practica is used by an educational institution, certain student information may constitute education records. In those cases we act as a service provider to the institution and handle such records according to our agreement with it and applicable law. Students should direct requests about their education records to their institution.
6. Data retention
We keep information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. When information is no longer needed, we delete or de-identify it.
7. Your rights and choices
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal information, and to object to or restrict certain processing. You can update much of your profile information directly in the Service, or contact us to exercise these rights. If your account was created by an institution, we may direct your request to that institution.
8. Security
We use administrative, technical, and organizational measures designed to protect your information, including access controls and encryption in transit. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
9. Cookies
We use cookies and similar technologies to keep you signed in, remember preferences, and understand how the Service is used. You can control cookies through your browser settings, though some features may not work without them.
10. Children’s privacy
The Service is not directed to children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us information, please contact us so we can take appropriate action.
11. International users
We may process and store information in countries other than your own. Where we transfer personal information across borders, we take steps to ensure it receives an appropriate level of protection.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will provide notice through the Service or by email. The “Last updated” date above indicates when this policy was last revised.
